Israel denies the Palestinians free access the drinking waters, says International Amnesty
A Anistia Internacional (AI) denunciou nesta segunda-feira que Israel nega aos palestinos o direito ao acesso livre à água potável, ao manter um controle total sobre os recursos hídricos compartilhados.
Em relatório, a AI aponta que a política de Israel restringe sem razão a disponibilidade de água nos territórios palestinos ocupados e impede os palestinos de construírem uma infraestrutura hídrica adequada.
"Israel só permite aos palestinos o acesso a uma parte dos recursos hídricos compartilhados, que se encontra em sua maioria na Cisjordânia ocupada, enquanto os assentamentos israelenses ilegais recebem praticamente provisão ilimitada", explica Donatela Rovera, investigadora da ONG. No caso da Faixa de Gaza, conta Rovera, "o bloqueio fez com que piore uma situação que já era precária por si só".
Segundo a Anistia, Israel usa, por exemplo, mais de 80% da água procedente de um aquífero subterrâneo partilhado com os palestinos, que, por sua vez, só têm acesso a 20% do total. A diferença existe apesar de o aquífero ser a única fonte hídrica para os palestinos na Cisjordânia. Israel, por sua vez, tem acesso a outras fontes e o monopólio sobre elas.
O resultado é que o consumo diário de água de um palestino não chega a 70 litros, enquanto o de um israelense médio supera os 300 litros. Em algumas zonas rurais, os palestinos sobrevivem com menos de 20 litros ao dia.
A Anistia lembra ainda que Israel não só se apropriou pela força de terras palestinas ricas em água, como também estabeleceu um complexo sistema de permissões, através do qual as autoridades palestinas têm que ter autorização do governo e do Exército israelenses para desenvolver projetos relacionados à água.
